Driver Issues: Audi and Volkswagen Water Pump Problem

Drivers of the above vehicles have reported several performance problems involved with these Audi and VW water pump issues.

According to the class-action lawsuit against Volkswagen, the automaker has been aware as early as June of 2016 that there have been apparent problems with several faulty pieces associated with these vehicles’ water pumps. These particular manufacturer defects center around defective thermoplastic water pump modules. These problematic water pump components in Volkswagen and Audi vehicles consist of:

  • The water pump itself
  • The thermostat: Specifically, the engine temperature control actuator (N493)
  • And the integrated sensors

Audi and Volkswagen vehicles with defective water pumps can easily overheat, causing the vehicle to fail while driving. This can often lead to multiple trips to a certified mechanic or repair center, as well as expensive repair costs.

About: VW Water Pump Problem Class Action Lawsuit

The class-action lawsuit against Volkswagen alleges that Volkswagen Group of America was aware of these water pump issues and defects when these vehicles left their manufacturing facilities. The class-action suit lays out that the automotive company chose to conceal or omit this information in the sale and marketing efforts behind these vehicles, which is in clear violation of the law.

Another issue that arose was the fact that when drivers of these vehicles contacted Volkswagen regarding this defect, the company claimed they were either “unable or unwilling” to repair this class of vehicles. They responded with the statement that their vehicles were “operating as intended”, and therefore, that they were unable to be repaired or replaced under warranty.

When the vehicles that are included in this particular class action suit fall out of their warranty period, owners will be charged by Volkswagen or a certified Volkswagen/Audi repair center for the repair or replacement of their water pump. If you drive one of these Audi or Volkswagen vehicles and have been experiencing engine failure and/or water pump issues, opting into this Volkswagen class action lawsuit may not be your only option for legal recourse.
