Diesel Particulate Filter Defects in Land Rover, Range Rover, and Jaguar Diesel Vehicles

What is the cause of DPF filter defects in Land Rover, Range Rover, and Jaguar or Diesel engine problems and?

Diesel Particulate Filters (DPF) are designed to capture and store exhaust soot from diesel vehicles, in order to reduce vehicle emissions.

Diesel particulate matter builds up in the DPF as a result of incomplete combustion of diesel fuel. This incomplete combustion produces a build-up of black carbon particles (also known as soot) in the DPF and the engine, under totally normal driving conditions.

If these defective diesel particulate filters cannot regenerate or clear by “burning off the soot” and/or if they are not maintained and manually emptied or cleaned ––– this can cause the vehicle to shut down or stall without warning. Drivers have said this issue can expose them to an undue and hazardous threat.

The issue stems from the fact that the engine needs to run at higher temperatures for DPF regeneration to take place. For that to happen, the vehicle needs to be driven on the highway, on a regular basis, for prolonged periods in order to regenerate the DPF. Oftentimes, this problem occurs in vehicles that are infrequently driven and/or driven around town at slower speeds than what is required to regenerate the filter.

History of Filter Defects in Land Rovers, Range Rovers, and Jaguar Diesel Vehicles

Jaguar Land Rover North America started putting this type of DPF in their vehicles back in 2009. The manufacturer did this in an effort to substantially reduce emissions in their diesel vehicles. However, drivers have just recently raised awareness and complaints of the issues these filters are creating.

We have come to discover that Jaguar Land Rover North America was actually aware at the time they released these vehicles for sale and lease that they were defective. The lawsuit filed against Jaguar Land Rover claims the manufacturer willingly concealed this information from its drivers.

About: Jaguar, Range Rover, Land Rover, Diesel Class Action Lawsuit

Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC was recently hit with a proposed class-action suit for these issues with 2018 - 2020 Land Rover, Range Rover, and Jaguar diesel vehicles.

The class action goes into further detail, explaining that this problem is compounded by the fact that the warning which indicates this issue, is inadequate as well.

The DPF warning light system in these vehicles doesn’t activate until it is far too late for regeneration to occur. With late-to-no warning from the lighted warning system, this can cause irreparable damage to the filter, subjecting drivers to the expensive replacement of the DPF.

This class-action lawsuit aims to represent nationwide owners and lessees of 2018-2020 Land Rover, Jaguar, and Range Rover diesel vehicles that are outfitted with these filters.

What drivers need to know is that opting into this Jaguar Land Rover class-action suit may not be your only option. You may be entitled to greater damages for and/or the replacement of your vehicle by pursuing your case with a lemon law attorney.
