Class Action Lawsuit: Ford Mustang Transmission Issues

A class-action lawsuit was filed against Ford for these transmission problems in their manual transmission Mustang vehicles. In the lawsuit, the plaintiff alleged that Ford was aware of the issues these transmissions were having when they left the auto manufacturer's possession.

The over-180 page class-action lawsuit lays out that these transmission problems affect the vehicle’s acceleration, deceleration, and speed ––– making it dysfunctional and potentially dangerous for drivers to operate. The lawsuit also pointed out that Ford was allegedly aware of these technical issues, as far back as the release of these 2011 Mustang vehicles. This information was based on the fact that technical service bulletins were sent to Ford dealers, and also that complaints were filed, in regards to this issue, with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

NHTSA originally opened an investigation on this issue back in August of 2011, to investigate 2011-2012 manual transmission Ford Mustangs. Through NHTSA's investigations, they uncovered that over 360 complaints had been filed by Ford customers, 300 of which were provided by the Ford Motor Company. indicative of their recognition of the problem, and their compliance with the investigation. This was an indication that Ford was aware of these Mustang Transmission issues as early as 2011, but continued to manufacture and distribute these vehicles.

More recently, the judge in this class action suit ruled in favor of the plaintiffs (drivers of 2018-2019 manual transmission Mustangs) alleged problems they were experiencing with their transmissions made these vehicles both unreliable and unsafe.

Keep in mind, if you are the driver of a 2011-2019 Mustang and have been experiencing problems with your manual transmission, opting into this class action lawsuit may not be your only option.
