Honda Idle Stop Problems

Honda Idle Stop Problems

Honda idle stop problems are impacting certain makes and models of automakers' vehicles. Honda may be facing a class action lawsuit in the face of these issues. A feature in certain Honda vehicles turns the engine completely off when the engine reaches an idling RPM, as the brake is fully pressed down.

The Honda feature is referred to as 'Idle Stop.' This function is designed to idle the engine when the vehicle comes to a complete stop. Then, it restarts the engine and moves the car forward as the driver presses the accelerator.

Instead, these honda vehicle systems are completely shutting off the engine. Many of them have problems starting back up again after automatically turning off.

Honda Pilot Idle Stop Problems

This investigation all started after the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) opened the investigation on 2016-2020 Honda Pilots.

This was prompted after drivers filed more than 200 complaints regarding the honda idle-stop feature, causing engines to fail and hinder or totally prevent them from restarting.

NHTSA estimates around 195,000 2016-2020 Honda Pilots are included in this investigation. These are models equipped with nine-speed automatic transmissions and 3.5-liter engines.

Lawsuit for Honda Idle Stop Problems

The plaintiff, Hamid Bolooki, filed suit in Los Angeles federal court on June 21. Cowper Law, DiCello Levitt Gutzler, Beasley Allen, and Andrew Trailor are pursuing the case.

The plaintiff stated his Honda Pilot started stalling two years after he purchased it. When he stopped his Honda, the engine would shut off. To complicate the situation, it wouldn't automatically restart when he pressed down the accelerator. He noted that even when he repeatedly pressed the START button (the ignition), his car would not restart.

The plaintiff laid out in the class action lawsuit that the Honda technicians he took his vehicle to for repair said that Honda is aware of this issue, but at this time, are unable to fix this problem. He also cited in the class action that his car is still having issues to this day.
