If you have been having issues or engine problems with your Hyundai, you aren’t the only one. Hyundai recently issued a safety recall for nearly 130,000 vehicles.

This recall addresses stalling engines, engine failure, and non-collision engine fires in several models, including the Hyundai Sonata, Santa Fe, and Veloster. Our Hyundai Lemon Law Attorneys have been helping our clients review their cases, and fight for recompensation and damages for their Hyundai vehicles.

If you are an owner or lessee, you may have already received notice for the safety recall of your vehicle. Keep in mind, opting into Hyundai’s class-action lawsuit to receive your settlement might not be your only option.

If your vehicle qualifies under state or federal lemon law, you may be entitled to greater benefits under the lemon law than you would in a class action settlement offered by the Hyundai Motor Company. For qualifying vehicles, this may include:

  • A replacement for your Hyundai vehicle.
  • A refund for your Hyundai.
  • A cash settlement for your Hyundai vehicle.

If you think you may have a lemon on your hands, contact our Hyundai lemon law attorneys at 888LEMON28.COM as soon as possible.

Which Hyundai Models Have Engine Problems?

This recent recall isn’t the only record of engine problems in Hyundai’s manufacturing history. The company has been facing engine problems and fire-risk issues in several of their other models, over the last decade.

The latest vehicles added to the long list of Hyundai safety recalls include

  • 2012 Hyundai Santa Fe.
  • 2011-2013 and 2016 Sonata Hybrid
  • 2015-2016 Veloster

Hyundai Engine Problems and Hyundai Engine Fires

In Hyundai’s safety recall notice, they reported they are “conducting a safety recall in the United States to address a condition of engine failures resulting in non-crash vehicle fires”, in these models.

They stated that though the cause of these problems can be untraceable, they believe the engines in these models may have been produced in a way that creates premature wear-and-tear on the connecting rod bearings.

The loosening or wearing of these connecting rod bearings can cause an abnormal knocking or ticking noise in the engine. This problem can also trigger the illumination of the oil pressure warning light in these vehicles.

If drivers continue to operate their vehicle in this condition, the engine can sustain further damage and eventually stall while the vehicle is being operated. This of course puts drivers at a much greater risk of an accident or collision.

In addition, a damaged connecting rod can puncture the engine block, which can cause an oil leak. When leaking oil comes into contact with hot surfaces in the vehicle’s engine compartment, this can spark a non-crash fire in your Hyundai’s engine compartment vehicle.

Hyundai and their drivers of the 2012 Hyundai Santa Fe, 2011-2013 and 2016 Sonata Hybrids, 2015-2016 Velosters commonly report:

  • Engine seizure.
  • Engine stalling.
  • Engine failure.
  • Non-collision engine fires.
  • Sudden or gradual loss of engine power.
  • Problems with their oil light.
  • And an increased rate of fuel consumption or loss in fuel economy.

In these vehicles. Hyundai urges customers who are having these problems to get service at a Hyundai dealer as soon as possible. As a Hyundai driver, you have options, and contacting a knowledgeable lemon law attorney should be your first course of action.
